Lucilla’s cuisine

Local traditional recipes and the freshest produce

Viva la mamma!

Lunch and dinner at Villa Mario are made by Lucilla herself.

Every recipe follows the local tradition of the island (and of the whole region of Napoli) and of her family—but she’s also constantly experimenting and growing her repertoire. Lucilla and her kitchen staff always look for the freshest, most authentic local ingredients. She always picks in-season fruits and vegetables from our Giardiniello, or sources supplies from trusted local farmers.

Taste the flavours of the sea

Lucilla’s recipes are not particularly elaborate: her signature dishes are a tribute to simplicity and authenticity. An ever-smiling, passionate chef, she pours all her love into every recipe—turning the simplest pasta with beans into a memorable experience for your taste buds.

Throughout the year she also patiently makes delicious jam with oranges, figs, peaches, plums, apples, lemons and more—along with her famous tomato salsa. She’s also an expert at preserving food in oil—whether it’s fish (tuna, mackerel and more) or vegetables (artichokes, eggplants, zucchini and more).

Our kitchen is open for lunch every day except for Sunday: a perfect chance for you to try a delicious bruschetta, local caponata, or special recipes prepared by request like Ischia-style rabbit or fish soup… all to be enjoyed from the Belvedere terrace, with its stunning view over the vineyards and verdant hills overlooking Sant’Angelo bay.

Every Sunday, after dinner, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with heavenly desserts – from the famous caprese cake to limoncello-flavoured tiramisu.

Lucilla does her best to accommodate our guests’ dietary requirements: be prepared for flavoursome vegetarian and vegan alternatives. Plus, Villa Mario Ischia hotel is a certified celiac-friendly establishment.

A tasty ‘good morning’

Fresh white or whole-grain bread; rusks; butter and cheese; jam, honey and hazelnut spread; eggs any style – poached, scrambled, hard-boiled, fried, omelettes – prepared on the spot; salami and cold cuts; fresh fruit, fruit salads, freshly-squeezed juices; yogurts; cereals, rice puffs and muesli; cherry tomatoes and basil; biscuits, fresh plum cake and croissants; and coffee – espresso, americano, macchiato, cappuccino, latte, hot chocolate, black and green tea… There’s a wide range of options for your breakfast at Villa Mario. Fun fact: following the island’s farming tradition, the most typical breakfast in Ischia is of the savoury kind. It’s “pane e pomodoro”, fresh bread with the freshest tomato seasoned with extra-virgin olive oil and salt. We’re proud of our island and we love to honour this tradition and many more—which is also why you can find broad beans and ventresca tuna as part of our breakfast buffet during spring.
